OUR STORY

Emperor Supply Co. started with a simple frustration.

Years ago, I found myself spending hours watching pomade reviews, reading forums, and trying product after product, searching for something that truly lived up to the hype. Nothing checked every box. Eventually I reached the same conclusion so many entrepreneurs have reached before me: if I wanted it done right, I was going to have to build it myself.

So I did.

The first batches were mixed in my mom’s kitchen with more determination than experience. There were plenty of failures—some so bad I had to cut my hair just to get the product out. But every mistake taught me something. Instead of giving up, I kept refining the formula until I created a product I was proud to use every single day.

At the time, I was working for a friend’s clothing company, but I’d always wanted to build something of my own. That entrepreneurial drive started long before Emperor Supply Co. As a kid, I was always looking for my next opportunity—selling candy, cutting grass, and finding ways to create something from nothing. Building a brand wasn’t just a business idea; it was something I’d been working toward my entire life.

The original name was JT Downs Grooming Products, but it never felt right. It lacked the identity, confidence, and attitude I wanted the brand to represent. I wanted something bigger—something that reflected discipline, ambition, and earning your place.

Then, on the drive home one day, it hit me.

Emperor Supply Co.

Everything immediately clicked. Soon after came the words that would shape the company from that point forward:

Every Empire Needs an Emperor.

From there, I partnered with a designer whose work I admired in the streetwear world to build a visual identity that blended premium craftsmanship with the grit and authenticity I grew up around. While so many brands looked toward Los Angeles for their identity, I wanted ours to represent where we actually came from—the Inland Empire. That pride has never changed.

As demand grew, production eventually moved from my mom’s kitchen to a professional manufacturing partner that still calls the Inland Empire home today. Keeping our products local has always mattered because it’s part of who we are. We know where our products are made, who makes them, and the standard they have to meet before they ever earn the Emperor name.

Today, Emperor Supply Co. is still guided by the same philosophy it started with: never settle for average.

We’re not interested in chasing trends or releasing products for the sake of having a bigger catalog. Every formula is created with intention. Every detail matters. Every product has to earn its place.
